Opus
WORLD PREMIERE By MICHAEL HOLLINGER Directed by TERRENCE J. NOLEN A Co-Production with City Theatre of Pittsburgh On the Arcadia Stage January 12 - March 12, 2006 Violist turned playwright Michael Hollinger's latest play captures all the richness and power of great music. With only a few days to rehearse Beethoven's Opus 131, a world-renowned string quartet struggles to prepare for their highest-profile performance ever. Their rehearsal room becomes a pressure cooker as passions rise, personalities clash and the players are forced to confront the ephemeral nature of their life's work. Be the first to see this elegant and provoking piece, the latest in a long line of Hollinger hits to premiere at the Arden, including An Empty Plate in the Café du Grand Boeuf, Incorruptible, Red Herring, and Tooth and Claw.

Our glimpse of this symbiotic world is intriguing." –Philadelphia Inquirer "It's hard to imagine any chamber music lover or theatergoer disputing how well the playwright handles his material - or the excellence of this production." –WRTI "Moving and intelligent...a triumph!" –Reading Eagle "A masterpiece!" –Chestnut Hill Local |
