The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)
Philadelphia Premiere By ROALD DAHL Adapted by DAVID WOOD Directed by WHIT MACLAUGHLIN On the F. Otto Haas Stage November 29, 2006 - January 28, 2007
From the award-winning author Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach) comes the beloved tale of The BFG, the Big Friendly Giant! Join the young orphan Sophie and the 24-foot Big Friendly Giant on their magical journey from Giant Country to Buckingham Palace, as they team up to save the children of England from menacing, decidedly unfriendly giants. A smash on London's West End and at theatres across the United States, The BFG was declared "boisterously enjoyable" by Britain's The Guardian. The BFG is full of zany, mixed-up language, fantastical dreamscapes, and eye-popping puppets created by acclaimed Philadelphia puppeteer Aaron Cromie. Recommended for children ages 5 and up.
Critical Acclaim–
"A charming evening in the theater for adults as well as children!" –Philadelphia Inquirer "Entrancing! Director Whit MacLaughlin (an Arden children's show veteran) and adapter David Wood have given us a myriad of marvelous details, and charm by the bucketful. And, as the BFG himself, Peter Pryor is wondrous. Only minutes into The BFG, I knew the Arden had another BFH (that's Big Fat Hit, of course)." –Philadelphia City Paper [Read review] "A warm, magical theater experience that the whole family can enjoy! The stage performance of The BFG is filled with clever fun and wonder, incorporating beautiful dreamscapes, puppetry, and elaborate, custom-made masks." –GoCityKids.com [Read review] "An innovative and triumphant piece of stagework. Witty and imaginative!" –The Evening Bulletin [Read review] "The best play ever! The BFG is a lovely tale told with great affection. Truly heartwarming!" –Talkin' Broadway [Read review] "The BFG is Big Friendly Fun. A delight both children and adults alike!" –Press Focus [Read review Meet BFG puppet designer Aaron Cromie in Philadelphia City Paper [Read article] Meet BFG actor Ben Dibble (starring as Bloodbottler) in Main Line TICKET [Read article] Meet BFG actor Peter Pryor (starring as The BFG himself) in The Northeast Times [Read article] |
