Enter the Comcast Comcast Storyteller of the Year Contest
In conjunction with Arden Theatre Company's production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town, Comcast and the Arden are hosting a story writing competition.
High school students in the Philadelphia and Camden School Districts are invited to submit a story (written in essay, newspaper article, or poem format) about their community. The theme of the story should be MY TOWN and feature a person, place or event in the student's community and how that person, place or event defines the student's city or neighborhood.
Winners will receive a $750 college scholarship. Teachers of the winning students will receive $250 for their classroom. Winners will receive tickets for their families to see the Arden's production of Our Town and have their stories published on the Arden's website.
Rules and Regulations
Please read the following rules and regulations before beginning your article. Review them with your parent, teacher or mentor.
Eligibility
Students in grades nine through twelve who are currently enrolled in a public, private, parochial, or home school in the Philadelphia or Camden School Districts are eligible to enter.
Entry Rules
Each student may submit only one entry.
The story must be the work of a single student. Group essays are ineligible.
Teachers may submit the work of many students.
The theme of the story must be "My Town," and feature a person, place or event in the student's community and how that person, place or event defines their city or neighborhood.
The story may be in any of the following forms: essay, newspaper article, poem.
Story should be no longer than 450 words.
Entries must be emailed or postmarked by May 15, 2008.

Awards
Twenty finalists will be chosen to read their stories on camera at Comcast CN8 studios.
Three winners will be chosen from the twenty finalists. Each winner will receive a $750 college scholarship.
The teachers of the three winners will each receive $250 for their classroom.
Each winning student will receive complimentary tickets for their family (up to six tickets) to a performance of Our Town at Arden Theatre Company.
The three winning students will present their stories to a live audience at Arden Theatre Company at Comcast Night on June 18, 2008.
The three winning entries will be published on Arden Theatre Company's website.
The first name of the finalists will be posted on Arden Theatre Company's website the week of May 19, 2008. The finalists will be notified shortly thereafter.
How Stories Are Judged
Stories will be judged next to the stories submitted by other students. Judges will assess your story based on a 100-point scale consisting of writing style (30 points), writing quality (30 points), and personal voice (40 points).
