Arden Theatre Company Announces Arden Drama School Schedule

Philadelphia, PA - Arden Theatre Company announces its 2008/09 theatre classes for students - called Arden Drama School. Arden Drama School offers theatre classes for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade called Kids' Crew and theatre classes for students in middle and high school called Teen Company. Classes are offered every semester (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer); a listing of all fall classes is below, for a full listing of classes or to enroll, please visit www.ardentheatre.org.

ARDEN KIDS' CREW
(for students in Kindergarten - 5th grade)
Arden Kids' Crew provides fun, high quality interactive theatre classes that enliven imaginations, get kids working together, and instill a lifelong love of theatre. All classes are taught by professional teaching theatre artists with a penchant for teaching kids. Kids' Crew classes develop speaking, problem-solving and listening skills while increasing confidence and self-esteem.

Eight Week Saturday Classes
Every Saturday morning for eight weeks. $160 per semester.
Fall: October 4, 11, 18, 25, November 1, 8, 15, 22
  • Treasure Trunk (for students in Kindergarten)
    Saturdays, 10am - 11am
    Kindergarteners discover the power of creation by inventing their own stories. Boxes full of hats, baskets full of costumes, and trunks full of props inspire kids to new heights of creativity.

  • Storycrafters (for students in 1st and 2nd grades)
    Saturdays, 10am - 11:30am
    Star in your favorite book! Kids learn acting and storytelling by reading their favorite books and working together to act them out dramatically. Learn how to create a character and be a great storyteller! Every session, in fact, every class is unique! Take it once or six times; it's always a new journey!

  • Acting (for students in 3rd and 4th grades)
    Saturdays, 10am - 12pm
    Kids begin to learn the techniques that actors use on stage! They will use their bodies, voices and minds to create characters, play intentions and work together to create new pieces of theatre.

  • Acting (for students in 5th grade)
    Saturdays, 10am - 12pm
    Kids will work with scripts they create as well as scenes from plays.
One-day Classes
  • Play in a Day (for students for students in grades 1 - 5), $50 a class
    Fall: October 18, December 13; 10am - 3pm
    Kids work together to conceive, write and perform a play of their own creation! Parents and other guests can enjoy the fruits of their kids' labor at the end of the day. Each Play in a Day is as unique as the group of children. Take it once or ten times, the story and characters are always new!

  • One Day Workshops (for students in grades 1 - 5), $30 a class
    Fall: October 25, November 22; 1pm - 4pm

    • Improv - You'll use your imagination and teamwork to create characters, skits, and stories. Hilarious and active. October 25, 2008

    • Puppet Making - Learn how to make excellent puppets and take one home with you that day. November 22, 2008
After School Classes
Thursdays after school for six weeks. $120 per semester.
FALL: October 16, 23, 30 & November 6, 13, 20
  • NEW! Drama Shop
    (for students in 1st and 2nd grades) 4pm - 5:30pm
    (for students in 3rd and 4th grades) 4pm - 6pm
    (for students in 5th grades) 4pm - 6pm

    A playful and creative class that teaches students specific acting tools, such as character development, improvisation, and collaboration.
ARDEN TEEN COMPANY
(for students in 6th - 12th grades)
Arden Teen Company provides fundamental acting and theatre classes to our middle and high school students looking for more in-depth training. All classes are taught by professional teaching theatre artists who specialize in middle and high school years. Teen Company classes include more specialized areas for students looking for beginning professional theatre training.

Four Week Saturday Classes
Every Saturday for four weeks. $80
  • New! Costume Design
    (for students in 6th - 12th grades)
    October 11, 18, 25 & November 1; 10am - 12pm
    This four week session introduces students to the fundamentals of costume design, specifically how to create a design for a particular character, how to create a costume rendering, and how to conduct a design presentation.

  • New! Technical Theatre
    (for students in 6th - 12th grades)
    October 11, 18, 25 & November 1; 1pm - 3pm
    This four week session introduces students to the fundamentals of technical theatre, including a backstage tour of both our theatres and an introduction to light and sound design.
One Day Workshops
(for students in grades 6th - 12th), $30 per class
Fall: November 8, November 22; 1pm - 4pm
  • New! Shakespeare - Learn about the Bard and work on scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream and As You Like It. November 8, 2008

  • New! Audition Workshop - Nail that audition this year. Whether teens are hoping to get a role in the school play or musical or on the professional stage, this class will give them all the pointers, tips and concrete feedback they need to improve their chances. November 22, 2008
After School Classes
  • New! Musical Theatre
    Mondays or Tuesdays after school for six weeks. $120 per semester.
    Fall: Mondays, October 20, 27 & November 3,10,17,24
    (for students in 6th - 8th grades) 4pm - 6pm
    (for students in 9th - 12th grades) 6pm - 8pm
    This six week session will concentrate on communicating a story through singing. Exercises will be group based and develop skills needed for solo performances.

  • New! Acting
    Mondays or Tuesdays after school for six weeks. $120 per semester.
    Fall: Tuesdays October 21, 28 & November 4,11,18,25
    (for students in 6th - 8th grades) 4pm - 6pm
    (for students in 9th - 12th grades) 6pm - 8pm
    This six week session will cover fundamentals of acting and developing skills needed to perform dramatic texts. Students will learn how to use their voice, body and imagination to use a variety of tactics to overcome obstacles, reach objectives, and develop characters in preparation for one day performing a script. Theatre terminology will be covered.
