Arden Theatre Company honored with 23 Barrymore nominations
Something Intangible by Bruce Graham garners 13 noms
August 3, 2009 Philadelphia, PA - The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia announced the nominations for the 2009 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre on Monday evening. The Arden is pleased to have received 23 nominations – more than any other theatre company in the Greater Philadelphia region. The following 2008/09 Arden productions were nominated: Something Intangible (13 nominations) Outstanding Overall Production of a Play Outstanding Direction of a Play - Terrence J. Nolen Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play - Walter Charles as Doc Bartelli/Gustav Von Meyerhoff Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play - Scott Greer as Dale Wiston Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play - Ian Merrill Peakes as Tony Wiston Outstanding Leading Actress in a Play - Sally Mercer as Sonia Feldman Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play - Doug Hara as Leo Baxter Outstanding Set Design - James Kronzer Outstanding Lighting Design - F. Mitchell Dana Outstanding Costume Design - Rosemarie E. McKelvey Outstanding Sound Design - Jorge Cousineau Outstanding New Play - By Bruce Graham Outstanding Ensemble in a Play Candide (6 nominations) Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical Outstanding Direction of a Musical - Terrence J. Nolen Outstanding Leading Actor in a Musical - Ben Dibble as Candide Outstanding Leading Actor in a Musical - Scott Greer as Voltaire/Pangloss Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical - Mary Martello as Old Woman Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical Gee's Bend (3 nominations) Outstanding Leading Actress in a Play - Edwina Findley as Sadie Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play - Kala Moses Baxter as Nella The Ted and Stevie Wolf Award to New Approaches to Collaborations - Arden Theatre Company and The Philadelphia Museum of Art My Name Is Asher Lev (1 nomination) Outstanding New Play - By Aaron Posner The Arden was also one of two companies to receive this year's Brown Martin Philadelphia Award for My Name Is Asher Lev. This award honors plays that best lead audiences to a better understanding of the unique experiences that make up our diverse global community. The Barrymore Awards are the Greater Philadelphia region's comprehensive theatre awards program, produced annually by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. The award ceremony will take place on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Walnut Street Theatre.
